SMS Consent and Opt-In
Last updated: August 5, 2026
Crumb Coach is a platform used by independent home bakers to run their businesses. Text messages are sent on a baker's behalf to their own customers. This page documents exactly how a customer consents to those messages, the wording shown at the moment of consent, and how to stop them.
Who sends the messages
Messages are sent by Crumb Coach on behalf of an individual baker to that baker's own customers. A customer only ever receives messages from the baker they bought from or signed up with. Consent is recorded per baker and is never shared, sold, or transferred between bakers or to any third party.
Consent is never automatic
Buying something does not opt a customer into marketing messages. Both opt-in paths below use a control that is unchecked by default, and a purchase or signup completes normally if it is left unchecked. Marketing messages are only sent when a customer actively turns it on.
Opt-in path 1: in person, after a sale
When a customer pays a baker in person by card, the baker is shown a receipt screen. The customer gives their phone number verbally if they want a receipt texted to them. The receipt itself is transactional.
Beneath the phone field is a separate checkbox, unchecked by default. Its label reads exactly:
Also text me when new bakes drop
Directly beneath the checkbox, this disclosure is shown:
Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.
If the customer does not check the box, they receive only the transactional receipt for the purchase they just made, and no marketing messages.

Opt-in path 2: on a baker's online storefront
A customer ordering or signing up on a baker's public storefront page sees a toggle, off by default, labelled exactly:
Yes, I want to receive SMS notifications
Shown with the same disclosure:
Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.
The order or signup can be completed without enabling it. Links to our Privacy Policy and Terms are shown next to the toggle.
Storefront "join" forms present the same choice as two separate toggles, both off by default, labelled exactly:
Send me SMS notifications — Get order updates, special offers, and announcements via text message
Notify me about drops — Get a text when new product drops go live
The form's footer states that text alerts are optional and sent only if a toggle is turned on, followed by the same frequency / rates / HELP / STOP disclosure. Signing up never implies SMS consent.

What we record
When a customer opts in, we store, against that baker's account:
- that consent was given, as an explicit flag
- the date and time consent was given
- the phone number consent applies to
- which baker the consent was given to
- where it was collected (in person, or storefront signup)
What the messages look like
Transactional receipt, sent only when a customer asks for one:
Thanks for your order from Melanie's Bakery! Total $18.00.
Reorder anytime: https://crumbcoach.com/melaniesbakingco
Marketing message, sent only to customers who opted in:
Melanie's Bakery: fresh bakes available now. Order here: https://crumbcoach.com/melaniesbakingco — Reply STOP to opt out.
How to stop messages
Reply STOP to any message to stop all further messages, including transactional ones. Reply HELP for support information. A customer can also ask the baker directly, or contact us at support@crumbcoach.com.
An opt-out is honoured immediately and permanently until the customer opts in again. It is never overridden by a later purchase.
